The route to the Harbachalm leads along a forestry road through the forest. You pass the Tofern Chapel.

After about 1 1/2 h you reach the Harbachalm. In addition to specialties such as cheese, butter, bread, bacon or sausages, you should definitely have taste the apple bread, which is a mixture between cake and fruit bread.

The Harbachalm is an old mountain hut dating back to the 17th century. The whole Tofern area, as well as the Reitalm area, were used for copper mining.

The route continues and you pass the Tofernalm (closed). You hike to the Toferscharte, from where you have a wonderful view to Bad Gastein as well as to the Gamskarkogel, the highest grassy mountain in Europe. The view from the Gamskarkogel is simply unique. It stretches over the entire chain of the Hohe Tauern and over the most northern Kalkalpen, from the Wilder Kaiser to the Dachstein.

And the best: There is a mountain hut right on the top. At the Bad Gasteiner Hütte you will be spoiled with delicacies. This Alpine Club Lodge is one of the oldest huts in the Alps. The hut was built in 1828 by Archduke Johann and offers accommodation for about 20 people.

The descent is on the other side of the valley to the Rastötzenalm. Here you will be spoiled with delicacies. The forest road leads down to the Annen Chapel, which in turn is a place to stop. Along a nice hiking trail you reach Bad Hofgastein. You return to Grossarltal by train and / or bus.

OPTION: You can also descend from the Toferscharte along the Salzburger Almenweg to Bad Gastein.
