There are two possibilities to come to the Maurachalm: Either you hike along the forest road or you take the shortcuts through the forest. The first mountain hut is the Muggenfeldalm (closed), the second is the Maurachalm. This mountain hut is the northern most mountain hut in Grossarltal. Here you can taste self-made delicacies. Sometimes the people on the mountain hut are singing and playing traditional music. You hike further to the Auhofalm (closed) to the Kitzstein (Gabel). Up there, you have a picturesque view to the Salzachtal, the Hochkönig, the Tennengebirge and the Hagengebirge as well as the Hohe Tauern. You hike down to the Oberwandalm (closed) and further to the Karseggalm. This mountain hut is the oldest hut in Grossarltal and it is about 400 years old. There is no real floor in the hut and there is no electricity. Of course you get spoiled with self-made products too. After half an hour you reach the Unterwandalm, where you spend the night. Also here you can taste self-made bread, butter, cheese, bacon... Sometimes the man on the mountain hut plays his accordion. Sun sets are amazing.

You get woke up by the cow-bells. After a delicious breakfast you hike back to the Karseggalm and further to the Grosswildalm. You can eat something there. You hike further to the Kleinwildalm and to the Spatalm (both closed) and the Spatkar to the Saukaralm. This mountain hut is the highest mountain hut in Grossarltal. The view and sunsets are really amazing. You descend to the Gerstreitalm, where you spend the second night.

After a breakfast you hike downwards to the Vorderstadluck farm. From here you can go by taxi to the valley or you hike another hour to Grossarl.
