On the third day, the path is differently long, depending on which hut you stayed. Along the Salzburger almenweg you pass the Henerbichlalm (closed) to the Henerbichl. From here you can easily get to the Trögsee. These are small mountain lakes, which are always good for cooling off - especially in the high summer. Along the ridge you reach the Gründegg. From here you have a wonderful view on the surrounding mountains.

Continue the hike to the Penkkopf. Desent via the Promau- and Oberwandalm (both closed) to the Karseggalm. The Karseggalm is with 400 years one of the oldest hut in the region. The ground inside the hut is made of clay and bark and there is an open fireplace. Here a speciality from the Grossarltal is produced: the "Knetkäse". You don´t get this at any other hut, because you need an open fireplace to moke the cheese.

Author’s recommendation

Once a week you can watch the production of the traditionall "Sauerkäse". Details can be found in the event-calendar of the Tourist office.
