2 days hike Gamskarkogel and Frauenkogel
After about 1 1/2 hours you reach the Harbachalm. In addition to specialties such as cheese, butter, bread, bacon or sausages, you should definitely have taste the apple bread, which is a mixture between cake and fruit bread.
The Harbachalm is an old mountain hut dating back to the 17th century. The whole Tofern area, as well as the Reitalm area, were used for copper mining.
The route continues and you pass the Tofernalm (closed). You hike to the Toferscharte, from there you have a wonderful view to Bad Gastein as well as to the Gamskarkogel, the highest grassy mountain in Europe. The view from the Gamskarkogel is simply unique. It stretches over the entire chain of the Hohe Tauern and over the most northern Kalkalpen, from the Wilder Kaiser to the Dachstein.
And the best: There is a mountain hut right on the top. At the Bad Gasteiner Hütte (=Gamskarkogelhütte) you will be pampered with delicacies. This Alpine Club Lodge is one of the oldest huts in the Alps. Obernight stay at the Gamskarkogelhütte.
The next day we continue to the Frauenkogel. A particularly beautiful summit cross with a huge edelweiss in the middle stands on this grass mountain. This was set up by the Grossarl Mountain Rescue Service in memory of their deceased comrades. The path then leads into the Frauenkar and past many small "lakes". From "step" to "step" you get from one small lake to the next. A forest road then leads from the Bachalm to the end point of the tour, the Bach district. From here you can either take the Postbus to the center of Grossarl or walk along the footpath and cycle path back to the center of Grossarl.
