Starting point is the summit station of the Alpendorf gondola (runs between June and October). From the upper terminus, take the little road to the Gernkogelam via Buchauhütte. From here, follow the path to the right around the forested Gernkogel peak. Continue across a broad ridge and walk towards Sonntagskogel – the trail continues on the ridge and takes you straight to the peak. From Sonn-tagskogel, the path will lead you down to the Großunterbergalm.  Alternative:  Just before the Sonntagskogel summit, turn off towards the Maurachalm. Take the same way back or continue on the round trail around Grindkogel.
