This mountain tour starts in Ellmautal at the parking space Grund. You hike up on an path first through the forest then through meadows to the Ellmaualm.

At the Ellmaualm, you can taste self-made delicacies such as bread, butter, cheese, sausages or bacon. There is a playground for the children.

You continue along the Salzburger Almenweg to the Henerbichlalm (closed). As an option you can hike up to the Trögseen, which are beautiful mountain lakes. Then you hike to the Karalmen (closed) and finally to the Saukaralm. Here, the view to the surrounding mountains is amazing. Sunsets are awesome up there.

You descend via the Röschenbergalm (closed) to the Gerstreitalm. Here, children play on the playground nad the hikers enjoy self-made delicacies. Then you hike down to the village center of Grossarl.

Author’s recommendation

You could hike up to the Saukarkopf (approx. 1 1/2 h). The view is simply unique.

You go by car or hiking taxi to the Ellmautal to Grund - parking space. You hike up on the path no. 62 to the Ellmaualm, 1,794 m (approx. 1 1/2 h). You hike along the "Ellmautal-Almsteig" (no. 63) to the Henerbichlalm, 1,826 m (closed) and further to the ridge. Then you follow the "Ellmautal-Höhenweg" (no. 64) to the Saukaralm, 1,850 m (approx. 2 h from the Ellmaualm).

You hike down on the path no. 65 to the Röschenbergalm, 1,744 m (closed) and further to the Vorderstadluck farm or you hike at the no. 65A to the Gerstreitalm, 1,575 m, and on the same path to the Vorderstadluck farm (approx. 2 h). Then you hike down on the path no. 17 (Hertas Rast) to the village center of Grossarl. You can go down by hiking taxi from the Vorderstadluck farm to Grossarl.
